WP-Engine vs Kinsta, two of my favorite worpress hosters. These two hosting companies top the list for Best WordPress Hosting For [2021]. We are looking for the strengths of these two hostings.

WP-ENGINE HOSTING (WP-Engine vs Kinsta)

One of the best and fastest Wordpress hosters you can find.

We're not just talking about hosting, we're talking about hosting that is used by well-known large companies and discerning entrepreneurs. You pay a little more here, but that money is quickly made up for with a website that offers itself to your audience in a flash. In this WP-Engine hosting review, I am going to show you why WP-Engine is so much faster than average hosters and belongs to a group of elite Wordpress hosters.

WP-Engine uses standard Google Cloud servers of type N1. The following WP Engine data centers are now available to you: Iowa, South Carolina, Oregon, Montreal, Belgium, London, Frankfurt, the Netherlands, Taiwan, Tokyo and Sydney. With advanced packages, you can have your websites on type C2 servers (much faster for Wordpress). Expanded plans also allow use of Amazon Web Servers (AWS) with the following available data centers: Iowa, Virginia, Oregon, Montreal, Ireland, Singapore, Frankfurt, London, and Sydney.

Extended network

For new customers and customers who want to switch, the new extended network is available in cooperation with Cloudflare. The advantage of this network is the Layer 3 & 4 DDoS protection, and the Cloudflare CDN-For new customers and customers who want to switch, the new extended network is available in cooperation with Cloudflare. Speedtest GCP-N1 & GCP-C2

While Kinsta has all customers on C2 VMs, WP-Engine offers this. It must be said that WP-Engine was the first to offer this option. The difference between the older N1 and the new C2 server is that the latter runs at 3.8 GHz instead of the usual 2.2 or 2.8 GHz. This makes everything except PHP and SQL work at least 40% faster. This benefits Wordpress websites that mainly use PHP and SQL.

WP-Engine cache systems

Page cache

In order to display pages much faster, the HTML code of a page is saved so that it can be called up later and displayed immediately. This improves the loading time of your website's pages. With WP-Engine you can choose between Apache and Nginx. Practically, the difference between the two is that Nginx is better suited for heavy loads, i.e. more than 10,000 visitors at a time. Apache is used by almost 40% of all servers in the world, and Niginx by around 10%. In fact, everything is of course a little more complicated. Read more about the differences between Nginx and Apache here.

CDN cache

CDN cache means that website content such as JS, CSS, and media files, and possibly HTML, is stored on servers around the world so that visitors to your website can access your content from local servers. WP-Engine uses Stackpath and for advanced packages also Cloudflare.

Object cache

Object cache can be enabled as desired, but unlike page caching, it is not enabled by default. Object-Cache stores database requests so they don't have to be called when someone visits a page on your website. Database requests slow down your site's loading time significantly. This type of cache is not recommended in test environments because changes made to a website are not reflected immediately. You can find more information about object caching by WP-Engine here.

WP-Engine Dashboard Review

They use the WP-Engine dashboard for everything related to your websites and settings. You can review all existing sites, install new sites, or set up test environments. You have access to the databases, you get SFTP access and you can view overviews of bandwidth and visitor numbers. This is also where you can arrange everything related to invoices and payment details. As expected, the WP-Enigne dashboard is very clear and straightforward and can be easily operated by any beginner.

WP-Engine hosting uptime

Both the Google Cloud and the Amazon Cloud (AWS) can be described as so reliable that WP-Engine is sure that their websites will never go offline. Nowadays, when websites go offline for even a short period of time, it can have significant ramifications. It is therefore good to know that this is hardly possible with WP-Engine. Taking the website of a large company offline leads to a loss of reputation and revenue. If it takes too long, pages will disappear from Google search results, which is usually what causes the most damage.

With the ability to easily scale as traffic increases, WP-Engine will never run out of bandwidth no matter how many concurrent visitors your website receives. Other circumstances that could prevent your websites from being seen, such as: Problems with SSL certificates or security, for example, do not occur with WP-Engine.

WP engine hosting security

Your websites are monitored 24/7 to see if everything is running smoothly. WP-Engine enforces login hardening for your panels and websites. Hackers are kept away with Layer 3 & 4 DDoS detection and individual fire walls. Only the latest technology is used for both servers and websites. Free SSL certificates provide the necessary traffic encryption.

WP-Engine has a number of additional security measures and works, for example, with write protection for data carriers. This ensures that processes that have the right to write to the hard drive are restricted. It also keeps a log of what is written on the hard drive to help identify malicious code. WP-Engine does not allow all arbitrary Wordpres plug-ins on their servers. You have a system scanner that finds faulty plugins and deactivates them, as well as two-factor authentication for your dashboard (My WP-Engine).

WP Engine Managed Hosting Review: Pricing

Of course, this isn't a cheap hoster, but you get what you pay for. Prices start at $ 25 for 1 website. If you want your website to be faster and with higher availability than your competitors', WP-Engine or any other WP hosting manage is definitely the solution. For most people, this type of hosting pays off quickly. Check the prices here.

WP-Engine Hosting Review: Conclusion

It has been shown that there are few other hosters in the WordPress hosting sector that can compete with WP-Engine. This is the crème de la crème in terms of safety, fast loading times, and availability. They also relieve you of the work, so you can focus on the success of your company. If you or your company can save the money, WP-Engine is an absolute must.

KINSTA HOSTING (WP-Engine vs Kinsta)

Kinsta isn't regular hosting, it's one that takes care of all of the work except building your websites. This is known as managed hosting. Their specialty is that your websites load very quickly on their servers. In this Kinsta hosting review, we'll look at why it's worth paying $ 30 per month (1 website) for it. Hosters like this are the fashion, so many people already understand why.

Website visitors today have little patience. Once they get impatient and leave your website, you certainly won't earn anything from them. Tests have shown that a website that loads 1 second faster can generate 10% more sales instantly. So if you are making $ 3000 a month, that second will add $ 300. Ten times the price for this hosting. For large companies, of course, the additional profits are much, much higher. Kinsta won't speed up your current website by 1 second on average, it will probably speed up 2 or 3 seconds. Calculate for yourself what that results.

Kinsta is based on the Google Cloud Platform, the fastest network ever. If you compare this to normal standard hosting that uses seemingly outdated servers, the difference is 10x faster. Kinsta has many data centers and you can choose the location for your servers yourself, as close as possible to your visitors of course. Kinsta has been around for more than 10 years, during which they have naturally perfected themselves as managed hosters. Today there are more hosters like this using GCP, but Kinsta was the first.

What makes this hosting so much faster than regular hosting at another company? First of all, it is connected to the Google Cloud which only uses high quality servers and internet connections. This platform uses so-called VMs with a large amount of RAM, SSD and a very fast internet connection. Kinsta uses the C2 Compute-Optimized VMs, the crème de la crème in the CPU area.

Speedtest GCP-N1 & GCP-C2

In this Kinsta hosting review, we won't go too far into the differences between the various networks offered by Google. What I want to tell you is that Kinsta had a test done by Alexander Fauske (SEO specialist) who concluded that the GCP-C2 network for the Wordpress & Woocommerce website is at least two times faster than the standard -Google network GCP-N1. These are very extensive tests done with and without the Kinsta cache. All results of the GCP-N1 and GCP-C2 speed tests can be found here. The test was conducted on the websites of several leading Kinsta customers. Perhaps it is good to know that at Kinsta all customers have their locations on C2 servers and for example with one of the biggest competitors called WP-Engine this is only for elite users with expensive packages.

Kinsta Cache Systems

Have you been looking for the best cache plugin for Wordpress? You no longer need them if your websites are hosted by Kinsta as they already have advanced cache systems in place. Kinsta maintains the following caches: Object Cache, Bytecode Cache, CDN Cache, and Page Cache.

Page cache

Page caching saves all of the HTML from pages so that other pages can be created more quickly and pages that have already been cached can be viewed almost immediately. With Wordpress, PHP files are also saved and database queries are skipped. All of this makes for much faster loading times. Kinsta uses the Nginx Fast CGI Cache module. The time the cache expires can be set by Kinsta customers. Kinsta page caching works automatically for Wordpress, Woocommerce and many more.

Bytecode cache

Bytecode caching means that PHP code is saved in order to skip compiling on further requests. In Kinsta, OP Cache is active for all currently used PHP versions. Php 7.2, Php 7.3 and Php 7.4. As soon as new versions are published, they are automatically recorded. OP-Cache optimizes the use of PHP files, as these do not have to be completed over and over again. The OP cache is deactivated in Kinsta test environments, otherwise changed PHP files will only be visible later. OP cache should not be missing in any network for optimal loading times.

CDN cache

CDN caching means that JS, CSS, and media files are stored on servers around the world so that website visitors can download them from a source close to their location. Another advantage is that the CDN relieves the load on the original server considerably. There are 2 types of CDN. The first type works with substitute URLs and the second type is a real proxy server on which different name servers and their registrars have to be set up for domains. Kinsta uses KeyCDN of the first type. Since the Google Cloud is already protected, there is no need to provide DDos and Dos protection through the CDN.

Object cache

Caching objects reduces the load on databases from storing database queries. This means that there is no need to query the database with page requests. Wordpress already has a built-in object cache for some pages, but an object cache that works for multiple pages is better. This can be achieved by storing a script in the wp-content folder or using a WordPress cache plug-in with the appropriate option. However, it's easier to use the Redis offered at Kinsta for permanent object caching.

MyKinsta Dashboard Review

MyKinsta is your Kinsta dashboard that lets you set everything up. The "feel" of everything is very organized, clean and clear. Don't expect a cpanel as most things are already taken care of by Kinsta. As you know, they do all of the work for you as much as possible, which is very pleasant. So that you don't need the Cpanel either, the MyKinsta control panel is used to personalize everything. We can safely say that this is easy to use and understand for any layperson. This panel was developed by UX / UI experts and you will notice it right away.

Kinsta hosting uptime

We should definitely be talking about uptime in this Kinsta hosting review. Most normal cheap hosters often advertise with an uptime of 99.9%, which means your websites are practically always online with one small exception. This is a lie with most of the hosters and they are closer to 99% and in some cases much lower. With Kinsta and other top hosts, the opposite is true. Their websites are 100% online all year round as shown in the image below.

Kinsta hosting security

For starters, all sites are protected by GCP's corporate-level firewall. Kinsta hosting has what we know as Symlink Race Condition Protection (Cpanel), or it's all isolated so that hackers can't get from one website to another. Kinsta uses LXC and LXD Linux containers for this. Because of the high level of security at Kinsta, it is very difficult for hackers to break security. But of course, if someone logs into their account from a computer that a hacker has installed a keylogger on, it happens quickly. If a site is hacked, Kinsta will take care of it, you don't have to do anything.

Other security measures include the requirement of difficult passwords, IPs that log in incorrectly more than six times will be temporarily blocked, and GeoIP blocking. FTP is prohibited, only fully encrypted SFTP and SSH connections are allowed, and SSL certificates are provided free of charge. In addition, all of your websites are automatically backed up. You can find more information about safety at Kinsta here.

Kinsta Managed Hosting Review: Pricing

Kinsta is an expensive hosting service compared to the regular hosting that most people are familiar with. This is a service for people who are getting something in return. When you have web stores that are making much bigger sales with Kinsta service. The price of hosting pays off so quickly. Of course, this is especially true for medium and large companies that are more or less obliged to load their pages quickly in order to be taken seriously, and the additional revenue that can be achieved here is very high. Check the prices here.

Kinsta Hosting Review: Bottom Line

Kinsta is my preferred managed hosting service and I think it's worth the money. I don't want to spend an extra chapter on their service, but you can already imagine that it is top notch I suppose. If you want to learn more about Kinsta, I recommend checking out the website using the button below.
