What is the pharmacist's average IQ

IQ-Z Academic Health Professions - Pharmacists for the Future

In line with the IQ Funding Program, theRegional Chamber of Pharmacists in Rhineland Palatinate and MIP have jointly conceptualized the project "IQ Apotheker für die Zukunft" to enable pharmacists who have not graduated in Germany to pursue their profession here in the future. It is the first qualification of its kind in Germany.

Pharmacists who would like to practice their profession in Germany require a state recognition. In Rhineland-Palatinate, a successfully absolved language and pharmaceutical examinations conducted in Mainz by the Regional Chamber of Pharmacists in Rhineland Palatinate are required. Experience has shown that without an appropriate preparation, candidates fail.

The underlying premise of the program is to integrate linguistic and technical learning and anchor it through practical work. The participants therefore attend a subject-specific language course once a week that encompasses pharmaceutical content taught and prepared on four weekends. Simultaneously, all course participants work in a pharmacy and are professionally supervised by their employers and guided by professionals in these areas. All language difficulties that may arise are clarified during the language course, at the end of which, the participants are equipped with necessary skills to pass the examination. They would then receive their state recognition and attain their eligibility to work as pharmacists.

Since the beginning of the project in January 2017 there have been 50 international pharmacists who have completed the preparation course and the pharmaceutical knowledge examination (as of end of 2019). Many of them have received their state recognition and are now working in pharmacies across Rhineland Palatinate.

The project is carried out in cooperation with the Regional Chamber of Pharmacists in Rhineland Palatinate.
