What do I need to use Google Pay?

You need a smartphone with the following properties:

  • Android operating system from version 6.0 (Marshmallow)
  • NFC technology for contactless payment. NFC technology is now a widespread standard in smartphones.
  • Device lock (PIN, pattern or fingerprint used to unlock your smartphone). Devices without a lock are excluded for security reasons.


Furthermore:

  • a Google account (e-mail address with which you log in to the Google Playstore)
  • access to the internet banking of the DKB
  • the current version of the DKB banking app
  • the current version of the Google Pay app
  • an active TAN procedure
  • a DKB VISA card


If you do not want to use the DKB banking app, you can activate it directly with Google Pay. Authentication takes place in internet banking.

Adding my DKB VISA card to Google Pay does not work. What can be the reason?

Please check whether the following requirements for activating Google Pay are met:

  • Are you using the current version of the Android operating system (at least Marshmallow 6.0)?
  • Have you updated the DKB banking app?
  • Is the Google Pay app installed on your device?
  • Do you have a good internet connection?
  • Is the TAN (or SMS) to confirm your identity still valid?
  • Have you saved your current mobile phone number in your internet banking?
  • Is your DKB-VISA-Card usable and not blocked?


Google Pay may not work with smartphones:

  • if you have developer versions of Android installed.
  • if they are rooted, have a custom ROM or if the factory software has been modified. Google Pay does not work on these smartphones due to security risks.
  • if you have installed Samsung MyKnox.
  • if they are not tested and not approved by Google.
  • if you have an unlocked bootloader.

What do I have to do if I lose or replace my DKB VISA card when using Google Pay?

If you lose your DKB VISA card, you can block the card and reorder it quickly and easily in your internet banking or in the DKB banking app under Service> Accounts and cards. Alternatively, please contact us on 030 120 300 00.

If you have received a new DKB VISA card, you will need to register again for Google Pay. Please delete the digital credit card and store your new DKB VISA card directly in the Google Pay app.

What is Google Pay

Google Pay enables you to make contactless payments with your DKB VISA card. You save your card via the DKB banking app as a digital credit card in the Google Pay app. You can then pay by smartphone or smartwatch wherever contactless VISA credit card payment is possible. In addition, you benefit from a very short payment process in apps or on websites that offer Google Pay without having to re-enter your payment details.

What are the advantages of using Google Pay?

With Google Pay you can pay quickly, easily and securely on your mobile device: In shops (with Android smartphone or smartwatch), in apps or on websites, provided that they offer payment with Google Pay. You can find more information about Google Pay here.

Where can I use Google Pay?

You can use Google Pay wherever you can pay with Visa contactless, e.g. in supermarkets, at gas stations or in restaurants. Look for the contactless symbol.

You can also use Google Pay to pay for online shopping on websites and in apps. If an online retailer offers Google Pay, simply select Google Pay at checkout. Look for the Google Pay logo.

How do I pay with Google Pay?

When you pay in-store with Google Pay, simply hold your smartphone up to the credit card reader. For payments up to 25 euros, it is sufficient for the smartphone screen to be activated. For payments over 25 euros, activate the screen, unlock your device and hold it up to the credit card reader.

In principle, NFC must be available and activated on your device for this function. In addition, Google Pay must be set as the default payment app for NFC.

You can also pay online with Google Pay. If an online retailer offers Google Pay, simply select Google Pay at checkout. Look for the Google Pay logo.

My Google Pay payment is declined. What can be the reason?

Please check if one of the following applies to your credit card:

  • Is your card blocked?
  • Have you saved a block for a certain type of transaction via Card Control, e.g. for online sales?
  • Does your card have sufficient credit limits?
  • Is the merchant's payment terminal connected to the internet?
  • Have you activated the NFC function on your smartphone?

Can I be offline while paying?

You don't need an active internet connection to pay with Google Pay. Multiple transactions can be made without an internet connection using Google Pay.

How can I turn off notifications from my card in Google Pay?

In the DKB banking app you can make all the settings for your credit card and Google Pay under Card Control.

In the Google Pay app, you can turn off purchase notifications as follows:

  • Open the Google Pay app on your smartphone
  • Tap the three-bar menu> Settings> Notifications
  • Uncheck the option "Purchases"

I don't want to use Google Pay anymore. What should I do?

If you no longer want to use Google Pay, you can delete the stored card in Google Pay.

If the smartphone is no longer in your possession, you can also delete the card data with the Android Device Manager via any browser. Here you can reset your no longer present smartphone to the factory settings or lock it for further use. The prerequisite for this function is that your phone is linked to your Google account, that it is switched on and that there is an active internet connection.

How Safe is Google Pay?

Instead of your credit card number, Google Pay uses a virtual number to process the payment, so your credit card details are not transmitted to merchants.

Should you lose your device or it is stolen, you can find it at any time via the Android Device Manager, lock it and delete data. Your physical credit card remains unaffected. You can pay with it as usual.

Can someone other than me pay with my smartphone?

Make sure your device is safe and secure with an unlocking mechanism. In addition, you must not have registered other people's fingerprints or share your unlocking mechanism with other people. Otherwise, they could carry out Google Pay transactions with your device.

I lost the device with Google Pay installed. What should I do?

If you lose your smartphone with which you use Google Pay, please block the digital credit card stored there immediately. You can initiate the blocking via the Android Device Manager, the internet banking or by telephone on 030 120 300 00.

With the Android Device Manager you can deactivate the digital credit card stored in Google Pay via any browser. Here you can search for your lost smartphone, lock it for further use or reset it to the factory settings. The prerequisite for this function is that your smartphone is linked to your Google account, switched on and there is an active internet connection.

How and under what conditions do I receive 10 euros for activating Google Pay?

For the completed deposit of your DKB-VISA-Card with Google Pay in the period from 07.05. - 17.05.2019 we will credit you 10 euros to your DKB cash giro account. You will see the 10 euro bonus three days after you have deposited your DKB VISA card on the checking account of your DKB Cash. There will be no separate notification. The credit will be issued within three days after activation has been completed. The bonus is awarded per customer for a maximum of one DKB VISA card stored with Google Pay. Offer applies to the first 20,000 stored cards.
