How is the sales commission calculated?

What is the sales commission?

If your offer ends with a highest bid or the item is purchased using Buy It Now, we will charge a sales commission. This fee applies regardless of whether you finalize the transaction with the buyer or not.

If the transaction is canceled after the purchase, we may refund the sales commission. For more information, read the How can I request sales commission credit?

The sales commission refers to the total amount that the buyer (including VAT) has to pay. This total price also includes packaging, shipping and other costs such as B. additional insurance or gift wrapping.

Your monthly eBay invoice contains two items for sales commission, which are calculated separately from one another:

  1. Commission on the sales price of the item at the time of the item purchase

  2. Commission on the packaging, shipping and other costs, calculated after the buyer has selected the desired shipping method and, if necessary, special packaging or additional insurance in the checkout process. Shipping discounts when purchasing multiple items are taken into account when calculating the commission.

How do I know what the sales commission will be?

The following factors influence the amount of the sales commission:
  1. The selling price of the item

At auctions, the selling price corresponds to the final highest bid. For fixed-price or buy-it-now items, this is the fixed purchase price.

  2. The packaging, shipping and other costs
Costs that the seller has to pay in addition to the item price, such as packaging, shipping and other costs (e.g. gift packaging or additional insurance) are included in the sales commission.

  3. Private and commercial seller

For private sellers, the sales commission is based on the sales price of each individual item and on the packaging, shipping and other costs that the buyer has to bear, and for commercial sellers also on the category.

Notice for commercial sellers: If you have an article in two categories set with different fees, the sales commission depends on which category you select first when creating the offer.
  4. Offer type

    • Auctions and auctions with the "buy it now" option

The sales commission is calculated from the sales price of the article and according to the packaging, shipping and other costs that the buyer has to bear, and in the case of commercial sellers also according to the category.

    • Fixed price offers with several articles

The sales commission is based on the sales price of each individual item and on the packaging, shipping and other costs that the buyer has to bear, as well as, in the case of commercial sellers, also on the category.

    • Vehicles, boats, planes

The sales commission in these categories is a fixed amount, regardless of the sales price or the status of the seller.
