Wild mushrooms should always be washed well and cooked sufficiently, while cultivated mushrooms only need to be rinsed briefly, as they are usually hardly soiled and, depending on their nature, soak up the water quickly. Cultivated mushrooms can be roughly cleaned of soil or substrate residues with kitchen paper.
