Is Dumbledore really dead

Fantastic Beasts 2: Is [Spoiler] Really Dead?

In Fantastic Beasts 2, a main character dies in the fight against Grindelwald. But is she really dead or is there still a chance of a return. I have three theories.

Warning, the following are major spoilers about the death of a character in Fantastic Beasts 2: To everything we know about Fantastic Beasts 2, very few (like me) saw this moment at the end of Fantastic Beasts: Grindelwald's Crimes coming: When Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) wins followers in the Paris cemetery amphitheater, it looks as if Leta Lestrange (Zoë Kravitz) would also pass through the blue fire, which as a test puts Grindelwald's followers to the test (and destroys them if they lack loyalty) In truth, however, Leta uses the moment to launch an attack on Grindelwald, which the latter fends off and then kills Leta - she burns and dissolves in dust. But is Leta Lestrange really dead? I have three theories: One lets them die, one lets them be dead, but still lingers, and one lets them survive.

Theory 1: Leta Lestrange actually dies in Fantastic Beasts 2

Leta Lestrange in the first film as a framed photo (and potential love triangle for Newt), to get to know them properly in Fantastic Beasts 2 and to make them one of the most interesting characters in their ambivalence, but then to kill them again, seems to me even for J.K. Rowling cruel. But Professor Quirrell and Tom Riddle's diary-self also experienced "death by decay" and were no longer seen afterwards. And otherwise they have Deaths of important characters in the Harry Potter tradition: Cedric Diggory's, Sirius Black's, and Albus Dumbledore's deaths shaped Harry significantly. The Loss is an important driving force for the surviving characters - which could also be the case here: Leta's fiancé Theseus (Callum Turner) will now take action all the harder against Grindelwald and Newt (Eddie Redmayne) has also opted for a side.

Fantastic Beasts 2: Leta Lestrange shortly before she was murdered by Grindelwald

After Leta Lestrange her dark secret in Fantastic Beasts 2, it could also be argued that, in principle your"Function" fulfilled Has. We now know: She exchanged two babies during the ship crossing to America. The child who subsequently died was her brother Corvus Lestrange. The replaced baby, Credence, survived and was henceforth taken to be Corvus by many. It could be the end of the chapter "Family History of the Lestranges" in Fantastic Beasts.

Theory 2: Leta Lestrange returns as a ghost in Fantastic Beasts

But why should Fantastic Beasts 2 Leta as such an important figure (with several own character posters) and then immediately "dispose of" again? She and Newts in particular have a lot of (Hogwart's) history in common, which, as a Slytherin-Hufflepuff friendship, has not even been explored in depth. But if Leta really died, there would be Possibility of returning as a ghost. So your character could continue to be involved in the plot. So far we have seen surprisingly little of ghosts in the Fantastic Beasts series. In the Harry Potter books, Harry longed for the return of Sirius and Dumbledore as ghosts, but was disappointed. So isn't it time to experience a ghostly reunion? Ghosts linger because of unfinished business. So the question is: is Leta not ready to leave Earth yet? (Or maybe it's just wishful thinking that makes me consider this.)

Theory 3: Leta Lestrange is not dead ... but a Obscurial

The third theory about Leta Lestrange's death in Fantastic Beasts 2 is my current favorite theory and it only came to me after my second visit to the cinema: Leta Lestrange could be an obscurial. In fact, these dark parasitic magic outgrowths, which we got to know in Part 1 as the destructive power of Credence, are extremely rare. But while the first film emphasized that a wizard trains an obscurus if he suppresses his magic at a young age, the sequel emphasizes that the Obscurus in unloved and abused childrenarises.

Dumbledore first emphasized this aspect of lack of love to Newt on the London bus. Then, in the Lestrange Family Tree Review, we learn that Leta was never loved by her father. Her mother, in turn, died in childbed and could not show her any affection. At Hogwarts, she was unpopular not only with students but also with teachers. And when Grindelwald shakes hands with her in the amphitheater, he does it again stresses that no one loved Leta in the past. This insistence on her terrible childhood suggests that the unloved Leta Lestrange could be an obscurus - which would suddenly increase her chances of survival by 100% (like Credence Barebonewhich was also "destroyed" at the end of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them).

Fantastic Beasts 2: Leta in her family dungeon

I would go even further and argue that Newt knows Leta is an obscurial. Since they were close friends at Hogwarts, such a secret (like werewolf Lupine from Marauders) would have been hard to keep a secret. Maybe he has "never met a monster he couldn't love", even tried to help her control her power. Perhaps an accident was the (still unexplained) reason for his expulsion from Hogwarts, which was mentioned in Fantastic Beasts 1. Let's take a closer look at Dumbledore and Newt's bridge conversation at the end: Dumbledore asks "Is that true with Leta?" and Newt answers "Yes".When I first saw it, I automatically filled the unspoken space with the word "dead". But what if Dumbledore asks instead if she's an obscurial? Dumbledore is likely to deal with his dead sister Ariana, who is also involved Obscurus theories tend, namely to know.
