The term “backlink” (also known as a hyperlink) describes a link that points from one website to another website. The backlink is therefore nothing more than a reference from website A to website B. The anchor text is also relevant for a search engine like Google and, in the case of topic-relevant anchor texts, helps the search engine's crawler to classify the content behind the link to the correct topic for a search query. So that you do not have to worry about a possible penalty from the search engine, you should always pay attention to a “natural” anchor text with regard to the anchor text and not only use anchor texts such as “click here”.
A few years ago the motto was that the more backlinks with the desired keyword as anchor text the better, nowadays high-quality backlinks from websites with medium to high visibility and natural or varying anchor texts are all the more important.
So it doesn't depend on the mass of links, but on high-quality backlinks. Those who rely on mass today, as maybe 5-6 years ago, can quickly be punished by Google and Co. as link spam with a penalty, i.e. removal of the website from the Google index. So it is much more important to build a naturally growing link building as mentioned before and to suggest this to the search engine.
How do I recognize high quality backlinks?
There are several strategies for actively building backlinks, which you will get to know in the course of this article. First of all, however, it is generally important that you acquire the ability to recognize high-quality backlinks or to develop a feeling for the prerequisites for a good or rather bad backlink.
Since backlinks refer from one website to another website, as already mentioned, you should first find thematically suitable websites. Topic relevance plays a central role, because if you get a lot of backlinks from non-topic-relevant websites, this can be a first indication of an unnatural backlink profile for Google and Co.
In addition to the relevance of the topic itself, the website from which a backlink originates should also be able to convince in terms of content and provide a high level of current information, because Google and Co. are now recognizing how relevant the content of a website is to a certain topic. Another important evaluation criterion for a high-quality backlink is the subject of DoFollow-Link or NoFollow-Link.
A natural backlink profile usually has both NoFollow and DoFollow links, whereby one can basically assume that a doFollow link is much more relevant for the evaluation of the search engine than a NoFollow link. While a DoFollow link tells the crawler of the search engine to follow the link and look at the content on the linked website, a NoFollow link expresses the opposite, namely that the crawler should not follow the link because the content of the target page is not from Relevance is.
DoFollow links are therefore a vote of confidence from the linking site to the linked site and are used by Google & co. also interpreted that way. So every backlink is also a DoFollow link.

Very often, guest articles are preferred that not only cover a complex topic exceptionally well, but also explain complex relationships simply and vividly, if possible, and thus offer added value for the operator of the website, for which the award of a guest article is worthwhile.
For a guest article you should already be able to show something here in order to get the opportunity to place an article on larger websites. So make sure that your article scores points in terms of added value. In the case of blog comments, make sure that you don't just write “Great Article”, because such a comment is usually treated as spam and is not approved or even checked by the website operator. So take 2-3 minutes to read the article in question carefully and then go directly to the blog post in your comment.
This increases the likelihood that it will also be published and that you will receive a backlink for it. In general, it can be said that most blog comments are set to NoFollow by default, but a decent NoFollow backlink is definitely better than no backlink.
